Trying to become a successful entrepreneur can be hard work, and at many points, you may feel like giving up.
However, remember you are certainly not the first to walk this path, and you will not be the last. Thankfully some universal qualities tend to exist in most of the entrepreneurs that I have come across.
Obviously, this is not an exhaustive list, and not everybody shares these qualities, but there seems to be something about these key things that lead one to success.
Entrepreneurs Never Give Up
Summed up in one word ‘perseverance’. The ability to never give up can be difficult especially when you feel like you’re not making progress. However, those that have done it will tell you it wasn’t easy and they could never afford to give up.
You have to understand that failure and rejection is part of the process, and while they suck they are essential for learning. If everything was always easy who would bother to do it? Success comes from hard work, but the rewards that come from hard work more than worth it.
One of the most famous entrepreneurs of the hour is Elon Musk; he is the Chief Executive of SpaceX and Telsa Motors.
I could advise you to just generally listen to everything he says as he does have the whole entrepreneur business sewn up. However, one thing, in particular, is worth paying attention to. He is quoted as saying
“I think it is very important to have a feedback loop where you are constantly thinking about what you have done and how you could be doing it better. I think that is the single best piece of advice constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself.”
For those of us in e-commerce, or indeed any business, this could mean taking courses to develop your understanding and knowledge; it could mean networking; it could mean reading.
On top of this, you need to be examining how you make decisions and decide what to do. Upon discovering that these don’t work do you keep doing the same thing again what do you change what you’re doing? This could mean that the end of the working day you may not choose to sit and watch the television you may decide to do some reading or learning instead.
Lead By Example
The most successful entrepreneurs understand how to be a leader. A real leader will only ask his team things he is prepared to do
himself. They have the ability to provide a firm and decisive lead. A boss may delegate and refuse to take responsibility, placing it firmly back at the door of his employees; however, a real leader will understand that the buck stops with him and will maintain ownership of any problems. Taking the initiative and being responsible are key skills in being successful in entrepreneurial journey
Love to Work
Entrepreneurs are busy people. They are devoted to making their business a success and will put in the hours required. However if there is nothing to do, they won’t be sitting around. They will find something to do because they have busy, active minds. You may feel like you do not see many hours of daylight when you’re setting up your business. Always working, turning down invitations to socialise. What is the payoff? What are you aiming for and how much better will life be when you have successfully set up your business? Entrepreneurs have a plan that means once they have established one thing, they will be moving on to something else. This keeps them motivated and focused, and they enjoy what they do.
